Happy Thanksgiving!

Image
We have Julian (my grandson, 11) and his Dad (Jason, 40) coming to eat tomorrow. We don't get to see enough of either one, so we're looking forward to it. I'm also hoping that Julian is coming along with his drum lessons, and so I guess I'll see tonight. My brother is actually the better drummer, so Skip's coming over to work with Julian a little. Dondra is bitchin' in the kitchen (J/K) and has asked me to bone the turkey, so I'll make this one short and sweet. ================================================================== ================================================================== ================================================================= ================================================================= ================================================================== Thanks for clicking to feed! Directions! More And More Directions....

....... that Dondra is writing for me on how to do stuff.  First it was the TV and what input the DVD player is on, and how to run the theater system. Then came the oven and I had to learn a whole new thing to do with it: don't use "cook timer", because apparently it has an alarm that you have to pay attention to or the oven keeps baking stuff, which I found out a couple of months back fixing myself some hamburgers. Now it's the thermostat. Apparently, you can't just turn that thing from "cool" to "heat", you also have to switch the setting to "auto", plus there's a couple of other buttons there one has to fool with to keep the fan from running non-stop! And she's also writing my recipes in  case she's not home, at the hairdresser's or something. While she was still working part-time at the hospital, she wasn't too worried about my burning down the house, but now I kinda think she is! It ain't easy

Whenever I Need To Have My German Butt Kicked.....

....... this is the song and the man I listen to: That's it for now, since I have not heard back from last week's meeting, but I wish y'all a nice and safe weekend, and please hug a vet, okay? It isn't just one day they gave us. It was their whole life! And don't forget our unwanted pets who have no idea why they're unwanted or what they have done to suddenly be so miserable and longing for a human touch and a kind word or two. Click here to give them half a bowl of food, please? It's free and I appreciate it very much! Bill

Alzheimer's Ripoffs: BE CAREFUL How And Where You Spend Your Money!

Image
First off, the disclaimer: I'm not recommending that you ignore a product which claims to be beneficial in helping with short-term memory loss. I just want to make sure you do your research thoroughly before you order some "snake-oil" cure that will cost you major bucks, okay? You may find this information interesting: http://thealzheimersdoc.com/?p=757 Okay. Time to come clean..... without mentioning the name of the company, I have ordered vitamins, mineral supplements to help my memory loss and when I figured it all out at the end of the year, it amounted to over $800.00! If you're ever unsure, your first stop should always be the Alzheimers website . It's their job to keep up with the latest research and to advise you appropriately. That's it for today, Boys and Girls, just asking you to be careful where you spend your money! Another place to correctly spend your money is at your local humane society, or if you can't do that, then click h

Show And Tell

Not much to talk about, but this time I wanted to show you wherefrom ( that is a new word I just made up! I could have used "from which" , but I like "wherefrom" . Tough if you don't like it, Mr. William Strunk and your Elements of Style   or the Harbrace Handbook (written by Messrs. Harcourt and Brace), but sometimes the rules just don't fit!  Dondra and I were invited to a meeting to discuss how to best shape the services our Alzheimer's Assocation offers those families who have a need and how to reach out to them. Because of Dondra's health and my inability to drive, we won't be able to make that meeting, but luckily, our Family Services Manager, Danelle Hubbard, has given us the opportunity to send a statement to be read aloud by our Suzette Binford, the Director of Family Support Services, and here (in part) is that statment: "When I read Danelle's e-mail about the subject matter, I was pleased to note that in some respect

Dondra: A Little Set-Back And A Major Disappointment

Image
We'd been noticing it for a couple of days before, but yesterday was the appointment with her pulmonologist, and she wanted to have it checked out at that time. It's a good thing, because this time the swelling in her legs "joined the game"  because of her gouty arthritis. So her doc wrote her a scrip for Allopurinol, a drug which, in conjunction with her diuretics, helps reduce her swelling and uric acid levels . The disappointment is because tonight (Saturday night) is her 45th year class reunion  and there's no way she can make it, even with her rolling walker or cane. Yes, she is proud as hell, but this time I feel I have some authority in agreeing with her. ======================================================================== ======================================================================== PLAN B 1. Take the new meds over the weekend. 2. Bill gets to be the Maitre D, chef, server and 60's DJ for her very own private 45th reunion! ===
